Rosemary's Baby
by Ira Levin
That young by new couple is moving in. He’s an actor, she’s a housewife. What funny hijinks will they get into when they MEET THE NEIGHBORS!!??
Rosemary's Baby by Ira Levin is an eery horror thriller that almost reads like a mundane fiction book at times. It’s almost insidious in the way it ignores the weird stuff…
Rosemary and her husband have the apartment of their dreams and a bright future ahead. The Bram is a great building with friendly neighbors, a good location, and a long history of grisly murders.
Even a suicide, hallucinations, and a cameo by the pope isn’t enough to shake things up…
Just kidding, this book is batshit crazy with the way it dips its feet into weird “run away and never come back” horror ideas and the shifts back into something that would fit in a sitcom dealing with wacky neighbors.
I can see why this story is so iconic because of the way the material is presented…
After all…pregnant women are prone to hormones and such so imaging some dark plot against her might just be crazy pregnancy feelings comparable to odd eating habits.
But it’s not crazy if they are actually out to get you…
The book is fairly brief and it doesn’t overload you with info while mixing in everyday New York life.
The entire story is told from Rosemary’s perspective so we learn things at the same pace she does…never being sure what we can be sure of or who has her best interests at heart.
Highly recommend…
