A Curse of Scales and Flame by Max Walker

5.0

What a wild (dragon) ride this book was! Dragons, marvels, shifters, fae, vampires and many other magical creatures, all roaming a modern day Earth. A mysterious curse, a group of queer folks trying to stop dragons from falling, an old vampires/dragons conflict gaining momentum, spice, love, death, grief, found family!! Also, look at that gorgeous cover.

What else could you want from a queer fantasy book? Uhm?! I think it's safe to say that I loved it.

Set in California, A Case of Scales and Flame, the first installment in the Magic and Marvels series, follows Damien and Robby on their crazy mission to stop an agressive and mysterious plague that's killing all dragons. Although they're complete strangers when they first meet, these two quickly develop a strong relationship that is bursting with mutual attraction.

The author managed to build such an amazing world in just a little over 300 pages, the writing is beautiful and descriptive, placing you right in the middle of everything, the vivid imagery being one of my favourite things. The pacing is perfect, in true Max Walker fashion, I was on the edge of my seat while reading the last quarter of the book.

This was so good, friends! And I can't wait for the next books in the series. I need more shifter dragons in my life. The book will officially be out in the world this Friday, November 10th. If you like fantasy and open door M/M romance, then this book is for you.
