I loved this book.
[also kinda contains spoilers but kinda doesn’t? like they’re pretty vague spoilers]
My favourite part was the found family (of course) with Evelyn, Harry, Celia and John and their little setup. It didn’t last very long but it was very cute to see how they truly loved each other. I also loved the perspective it was written in - past tense, first person. It just makes you fall into the story so much more.
I also liked how Evelyn wasn’t a perfect person - or really a nice person a lot of the time. She was real, kinda mean, but also put herself first for so long she didn’t know what she was missing by doing that until it was gone.
You know everyone in her life has died before she starts telling her story, but reading their deaths was still heartbreaking. It was devastating to see it from her perspective, especially Harry and Celia’s deaths. I can still see her holding on to them in my mind.
Another important aspect that dictates how I feel about a book is the sex scenes. This book passes the me test because it has very few sex scenes, it don’t use super specific language and I didn’t feel uncomfortable reading it.
All in all this book lived up to the hype. It was heartbreaking and heartwarming and made me think about how I want to be able to look back on my life. Would definitely recommend
