Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman

3.0

Warning: Torture. (I had to skip parts)

This book felt rather old fashioned, like a fairy tale or children's book. (But this is not a book for kids!) With the way it was told, the way the characters were described, and the whimsical nature of under London. (Note: I hate whimsical! I almost stopped reading.)

I preferred Door's POV over Richard's. (Though hers was rather depressing.) I didn't particularly care for either of them. But I hated the villain's POVs! I debated skipping them and wished they weren't included.

The whole plot revolves around finding out who killed Door's family and why. How was the mystery? Not great. I didn't figure out who did it, but there weren't many hints and they weren't mentioned early enough. We needed more from Door's point of view to understand the world and what happened.

I have a complicated history with Niel Gaiman books. Good Omens is one of my favorite books ever, and I rather liked Stardust, however I hated and actually gave up on American Gods. Which is why I put off reading Neverwhere for so long. I debated giving up several times and in the end, I wish I had. It's just not for me.

At least I liked the ending. Though I wished there was an epilogue.
