Don't really know how to feel about this book.
The prose itself is lovely, and the way it incorporates actual Japanese mythology into this universe that Hana lives in is masterfully done. I do think most of the twists were executed well too--though they sometimes came one after another a bit too break-neckingly for me to really sit down and appreciate them. That being said, some parts of the narrative felt a little flat to me, for reasons I can't quite put into words. It did seem like the main conflict was resolved a bit too quickly for my tastes, and there were parts of the overall lore that either felt a bit rushed or just like they weren't quite fleshed out enough to hold my interest for long. Certain parts of the romance aspect felt a little flat to me too.
But, that being said, it was still an enjoyable read. A lot of the existential questions it asked were interesting to think about too, and I guess if I can take anything away from the narrative that's as good of a thing as any.
