Not sure why I didn’t like this more. Possibly I prefer books with more plot focus than character-focus.

Some interesting characters but I found myself a bit frustrated by them and speeding it up to get through.

There was a bit too much focus on the grandson being fat, IMO. I think some of that was intended to work in as a plot device (which is why this is marked as a potential spoiler) but I think a little boy could be very into sweets/food without the emphasis on how fat he is. For example, at one point Agnes is shocked that he doesn’t want to eat some higher calorie dinner but is happy to eat a salad instead and his fatness is mentioned as the reason she’s shocked.
