This is the fourth series from Jennifer Lynn Barnes I’ve read and I really enjoy her writing and storytelling. I also read a decent amount of YA and do not understand the disdain that some readers have towards it. All that being said, the fact that this was YA made the story completely unrealistic in a way I just could not excuse. Whyyyyyy is the First Lady spending so much time talking to a 17 year old high school student?!?!?! There’s also some inaccuracies regarding our government and political structures that are GLARING. To be fair, being a US citizen in this day and age has forced me to become way more politically aware than I care to be, but the author could have googled a few things. Entertaining read to be sure, but the complete unrealistic plot took me out of it and will stop me from reading the sequel.
