Gravy Train by Tess Makovesky

5.0

I received an ARC of this book for a honest review.

Tess Makovesky has written some really offbeat stories and here she's written a fantastic crime caper about a bag of money in a conspicuous blue bag chased by the desperate landlady of a rundown Brummie pub, her pervert step-uncle, one of the city's main gangsters and his minions, and a car thief.
It has a dash of Snatch, a pinch of The Italian Job, some kitchen sink drama, and a little The Long Good Friday.
But it's all Tess Makovesky. She has some great turns of phrase, some of her characters pull off a well-timed cuss, and the whole thing rattles off at great speed.
The book will make you laugh out loud while building enough dread through strong, opinionated characters to make your stomach hurt.
Really entertaining read.
