Yerba Buena by Nina LaCour

5.0

This book cut so effortlessly to the heart of not just its characters, but to their physical surroundings and all those they came in contact with. There are characters that were only on-page for a fraction of the book that I still found myself hoping to see again just to hear more of their stories, too. Nina LaCour has crafted two gorgeous stories here that are equal parts distinct and fatefully intertwined and I adore her for it.

If you pick this one up, make sure to take note that it's literary fiction, not romance, and be prepared for the fact that the sapphic romance is the string that ties the two storylines together rather than the main event. You may come away disappointed if you're expecting a sweeping, slow-build romance, but I promise it's worth the read for exactly what it really is! **Edit to add: Check for triggers on this one before reading, too, if that's a possible dealbreaker for you!
