All I Want by Darcey Bell

5.0

I finished this book three days ago and I’m still thinking about it and now I’m in a reading slump!!
Emma and her husband Ben who is a producer for plays are from New York. Newly pregnant Emma and Ben are looking to escape the busy city of New York. Ben who has become quite wealthy from his successful theatre work, has some extra money put away, when he stumbles upon a real estate ad for a home he believes is perfect. A massive Victorian with its own theatre room with a stage! The house is going to need lots of renovations but Emma immediately feels drawn to it. The house even has her dream stove! Spending most days alone at the house while it’s being renovated while Ben is stuck in the city working, Emma begins to wonder about the houses history. Soon she uncovers the house was once a facility for Broadway actors who needed to "dry out", and also a place for pregnant unwed mothers, then after that was occupied by three old recluses until she and Ben bought it. Emma begins to worry about her own sanity and soon question whether she is imagining things, after finding a journal in the attic , and seeing a young woman and baby appear and disappear in the field outside the house. Ben doesn’t believe her when she brings up some of the odd things happening around the home, and it doesn’t help he only come home weekends. Alone with only the contractor and his employees, Emma becomes a recluse herself and soon wonders if the dark history of the home is attaching itself to her! Wow the twists and turns and the element of horror just added to the sorry! Five stars!
