Death at the Sanatorium by Ragnar Jónasson
4.25
Ragnar Jónasson has done it again! As one of my all-time favorite authors, Jónasson’s work never fails to captivate me, and Death at the Sanatorium is no exception. This atmospheric gem blends the dark allure of Nordic noir with the timeless appeal of a classic Agatha Christie whodunnit. This is quite different from Jónasson’s usual books, but I absolutely loved it. Set in a chillingly creepy former sanatorium, the book’s dual timeline and multiple POVs keep the story engaging and dynamic. The short chapters make it a quick and addictive read, perfect for anyone who loves a golden-age-style murder mystery. Jónasson’s nods to Christie are delightful, and as a devoted fan of both authors, this book feels like a match made in literary heaven. The ending leaves it open for interpretation, but I’m hoping there will be another book like this! Highly recommended for mystery lovers—especially those who enjoy an atmospheric, intricately woven plot. I’ll eagerly read anything Jónasson writes next!
