“Healing . . . truly healing, not just existing, requires you to abandon the versions of yourself you created to survive.”
I love a single dad romance (particularly a girl dad) and was really looking forward to Maverick’s story. I was not even a little bit disappointed. Maverick and Emmie don’t get off to great start but the way their relationship develops is beautiful. They are both used to keeping people at arms length; Maverick to protect his young daughter, and Emmie because she is not sure what her future will ultimately look like. When they are thrown together as neighbors, there is an immediate attraction, but the burn is deliciously slow. Maverick is extremely protective of his daughter, Briar Rose, and Emmie isn’t very forthcoming with the details of her life up until this point. They can only fight their feelings for so long, though. I loved the way their story unfolded. Maverick’s Italian terms of endearment for Emmie and little Rosie didn’t hurt either.
