Lukas by Carian Cole
4.0

First read in 2018

Lukas - Vandal’s younger and more stable brother - the sweetest of the bunch. My love for Lukas as a hero knows no bounds. He’s the old soul of the Valentine crew. He grew up too fast - had some dark moments as Valentines are wont to do - but ultimately thrived and chased his own happiness. When another character is struggling relationship-wise, they all turn to Lukas for advise. Ironic since he is the youngest!

Lukas falls hard and fast for a new client as he works on her post-divorce-liberation tattoo. Ivy was blindsided when her husband of eighteen years left her for another woman, but now she’s discovering who she truly is and doing all the things she couldn’t before.

Leery of starting a relationship with someone twelve years her junior, Ivy takes a lot of convincing. Spoiler alert- she’s no match for Lukas! I love the way that he demolished every barrier that Ivy throws his way. He might be younger, but his emotional maturity speaks volumes and makes up for Ivy’s very real insecurities.

It wouldn’t be an Ashes & Embers romance without some angst and this one has a doozy. I won’t spoil anything, but Ivy’s daughter, Macy, is vying with Sydni for my least favorite person in this series. Ask Juliette about her character if you’re feeling brave!

There’s also a little secret bomb that’s dropped toward the end that throws yet another hitch in the “Vandal gets an HEA” road. I have a lot of feelings on the decisions that were made, and I’m praying that Carian Cole revisits this in the near future.
