okay okay, this one got me. i admit i almost dnf'ed this one like 20% of the way in, but i'm glad i stuck it out. also should be noted that i read this on spotify?? which does audiobooks now??
this one has a bit of a slow start, but once you get into it, it maintains all these different storylines and that's where the format really succeeds. it uses multiple povs of different timelines to slowly piece together the events of this estate without revealing the culprit or ending too early. i thought it did this surprisingly well, considering just how much information we're given! this is a book where the relationships between all its characters take precedence over the actual plot events (though ofc that's important too).
i thought it was a really good character study book, there's quite a few the characters but they all feel like they have the proper amount of screentime so that it doesn't bog down the story but you still get to know all of them very well. i loved getting both povs from ollie and sasha about their takes on their relationship, and the way the tom entries addressed the evidence in the wake of his death tickled me; won't spoil but what a wonderful/wholesome subversion, i don't see a lot of post-mortem povs used in a heartwarming way.
there's not a lot else i can get into depth in a spoiler-free review, but i will say it's a very satisfying ending where everyone gets what they deserve (mostly). a great read for ppl looking for a character-centric thriller.
