I really liked Márquez’s writing style—it is quite beautiful.  I feel like I enjoyed this story, but the numerous descriptions of sexual encounters were a bit off-putting. Those aside, I loved the arc of this story and the ending was so sweet.

There are several scenes in which the age of a female is mentioned in relation to a sexual encounters, and the females are between the ages of 14-16. I found it very uncomfortable, however, the setting of the book was from the late 1800s-1930s, and whether we want to admit it or not, 14-16 year old females were seen as women, not girls.  So, while these scenes would be seen as pedophilia if they set in modern day, they make sense when taken with time period.
