The Dark Fantastic: Race and the Imagination from Harry Potter to the Hunger Games by Ebony Elizabeth Thomas

5.0

This is one of my all-time favorite non-fiction reads. The author's narrative tying the various chapters together are compelling, the writing is excellent, and each of the chapters tells an all-too-important story about fandom, fantasy, race, and the intersections between those things. Even the chapters that address shows I've never seen tell a story that I've seen repeated elsewhere in media, and each of the chapters serve as powerful case studies to re-examine the way that we look at fantasy media and black women within those worlds.
