Chasing Christmas Eve
by Jill Shalvis
Holy shiitake, can Jill Shalvis write a great series or what? This is the fourth full novel of the Heartbreaker Bay series and it's just as good as each book before it. Nobody, and I mean, nobody writes such well-rounded, fully developed characters quite the was she does. From the very beginning of each story I feel an immediate connection with her characters. They become my friends and it makes everything that they go through very personal for me. I live each moment, both happy and sad, with them. Their victories become my own and I feel their heartache to my very core.
My all-time favorite type of hero is the hot nerd. Spence is the epitome of what I like about them. The first thing to hit you are the glasses and the quirky t-shirts, usually filled out very nicely, but beyond the obvious nerd uniform you discover the brilliant, hard-working, dedicated (sometimes to a fault) and mostly misunderstood and lonely man who just needs the right woman to break him out of his shell.
Cue Colbie, Spence's perfect match. She's also lonely, dedicated and brilliant but she's overworked, underappreciated and in need of a serious break from her responsibilities. Running away from New York to California, she's ends up in Cow Hollow and right into the arms of Spencer Baldwin.
I loved so many aspects of this story, from the easy romance that developed between Spence and Colbie to the close-knit friendships weaved throughout the story, through the whole series really. From Colbie's creative swearing and secret success to Spence's huge heart, love for family and dedication to help change the world, this story made me laugh, swoon, sigh and just fall in love with the people of Cow Hollow even harder than I already was. I can't wait to see what comes next!!
