Blade Breaker

There is a video on social media where someone is trying to read a fantasy novel, and all of the descriptions and names mesh with each other and sound like random noises you make with your mouth ("Hollabrand of the caste of the Verturnija stormed the high fae cadre of the Western Acropolis as the winds of Xueltaja whistled past...").
*eye twitch*
I'll be honest, I struggled so much because I barely remembered what happened in the first book. And I'm guessing Aveyard isn't the type to include a recap section (though she totally should), because this starts off fast, with no preamble, and I had zero clue what was happening. Any connection or interest I previously had was lost to confusion and irritation, like that of a senile old woman who is looking for her socks. Plus, I do have the recollection that the first book of this series was a LOTR knockoff, with all of the complicated histories, and dynamics, and random songs and witchy women crooning. I gave up on this pretty early on, and heavily skimmed the rest of it (I genuinely have no idea what happened, so I cannot help you).
My advice is wait until these all come out, then read them all fairly close together so you can remember and invest yourself in whatever is going on (there's a bad person...though I don't know who that is. But they are bad for...some reason).
Plus, if there are characters deaths (spoiler...there are character deaths...I think?), you'll be thrown into an emotional upheaval rather than the disinterested shrug I gave this.
