Goodbye Stranger by Rebecca Stead
5.0
I think it's basically common knowledge now that Rebecca Stead is a must-buy author whose books are consistently brilliant and excellent. Right? So it's not a surprise that Goodbye Stranger is amazing.
I love the fact that the book is set when the girls are in middle school, right as their sense of who they are (individually and as a unit) is changing. This is also the time when girls are really starting to grow up and get interested in boys and makeup, which means this is the time when friendships start to change (especially as maybe one friend starts to care about that stuff before the other one does). Em is starting to care about boys and popularity; Tab and Bridge not so much. So it's interesting/painful to watch the struggle of trying to maintain a friendship.
There's also possibly my favorite subplot ever, as Bridge tries to figure out whether she survived the accident for a reason and, if so, what reason.
Basically everything in this book is perfect and you should read it now.
I hope I get a new Rebecca Stead book soon (I would accept 2017 as soon).
Highly recommended.
