This is a historical romance that is different from other historicals on so many levels. Or maybe it’s just because I really enjoyed this one. It had a touch of magic and a bunch of steaminess. But what I liked most of all was that it had a kick-ass heroine.

Kaireen really doesn’t want to get married and definitely not to a Viking. Vikings are the worst you know, they pillage the lands and take what isn’t theirs, and she won’t have any part of it. She’d even go so far as to threaten to kill. Just a pity she enjoys his company so much. She does try to talk herself out of it, and she does hide her enjoyment quite well.

I’ve never read a historical romance with so much hotness and passion. There are a few battles which make the plot so well-written and everything comes together perfectly. The mixture of war, romance and clan betrayal thrilled me to the core. Blamed by a rival clan for the Lairds death, Kaireen is enraged and for the first time realises her love for the man she thought she hated. With the helping hands of fellow Vikings, she rushes to the aid of her family, in true kick-ass heroine style.

I don’t think I’ve ever been as attracted to a Viking as I was to Bram. His character didn’t really read like a Viking, well, not like any Viking I’ve ever imagined. He was a contradiction and too much of a gentleman, but that made him appeal to me even more. He knows what he wants and he will make sure he gets it, no matter what he has to do.

Andrea Cooper has really impressed me with her writing and I really cannot wait to read more of her books.
