I love Dylan Alcott; he’s achieved so much and has brought huge changes, especially as a role model for people with disabilities. He’s also changed the attitudes of many in so many contexts.

I wanted to love this book, but while I was amazed by some of the difficulties and achievements Dylan has faced, it just didn’t do it for me.

Firstly, I listened to the audiobook. Having heard Dylan on the radio, I thought his narration would’ve been top notch, however it lacked expression and I couldn’t always focus.

For those who know of Dylan Alcott, you likely know him for his sporting achievements. While it was cool to hear about his encounters off the court, the game commentary didn’t really do it for me. Sport isn’t my thing, though.

Finally, Dylan’s writing lacked description and artistic flair. I loved hearing about his family, overseas adventures and the highs and lows of living with a disability, but often the basic facts were all that were reported, in the style of a high school recount.

I can’t say a bad word about Dylan himself, and I’m glad I persevered with the book. He is a true inspiration!
