This is technically book 0 of the Eva Rae series, however, this book came out after 8 (i think) books in the series were already out.. to write that many books in a series and then go back and write the beginning before the beginning must have been a hard thing to do.
While I did enjoy this one and the mystery in it, I don't quite think it lived up to the others... In all of the other books, she trusts her gut and finds the evidence to back it up. In this one, she is fighting to free a man from prison who is innocent for the crime he was committed for, she just has to prove it.
This one did show more of a background into how things were with her husband Chad which ultimately lead perfectly into book 1 of the series. It is also interesting that we learn of other characters we have read about in the other books as well, a very smart move on the author's part.
I don't think this one lives up to the others in the series only because I didn't find this mystery as good as the rest. With the others I am left with a satisfied feeling once I figure out who the killer is. I didn't have that with this one.. I was more disappointed that she had wasted her time...
I would recommend this series to readers just dipping their toes into the crime/thriller genre. They are quick and easy to read and get you looking for more.
