Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo
5.0
Oh man, I loved this so much! I am not a huge fantasy reader because I can often get overwhelmed and bored with too much world building and setting up. Leigh Bardugo definitely did not bore me and yet the world she developed - the Grisham world is so beautifully woven in and complex. I was drawn right in.
Since Crooked Kingdom is the sequel to Six of Crows I cannot talk about things too specifically, but I will share a few things I enjoyed about this book. First of all the characters. There are 6 main characters as well as a whole crew of side characters who play important roles as the story unfolds. I loved seeing the development of the relationships between the main 6. They become like a family - a slightly dysfunctional family, but isn't that normal? Haha. I know others didn't like when Bardugo took a lot of time with back stories of each of the characters, but I thought it helped me to understand them and it really made me love them more! I wanted to see them all get their happy endings - or at least get what they were hoping for. It was hard to remember that these strong, talented, rough and tough characters were all teenagers! Crazy.
The plot was also amazing. This book has a few different escapades that happen. I love that the whole plan is not revealed at the beginning. I was kept at the edge of my seat waiting for the next bit to unfold. I love the surprised Kaz had in store that you don't learn til after the fact.
There were just a few bits that I felt dragged out too much but overall those were greatly overshadowed by the anticipation and excitement to see what happens next. I laughed a few times, I cried just a bit at a few parts and overall absolutely loved this book.
