This book is about Violet and her journey navigating becoming a dragon rider at the school with a disability( although it’s not said what it is). It is a romance and fantasy but does a pretty good job balancing both.
Thoughts:
I read this book while listening to the audiobook. I was worried that the hype (and extremely critical discourse) surrounding this book would hinder how I feel about this book, and it did in the best way. I heard a spoiler about the book( I’ll mention it below) and thought that was as far as the book would get. I would say this book is a mixture of Hunger Games, with sprinkles of Harry Potter and Romeo and Juliet.
No.
This book is fun. Please don’t take it too seriously and just go in ready to have fun. There are little moments and turns that made the book so fun. If possible please read with the audiobook. There is a certain part towards the end that makes it worth it.
*****SPOILERS PLEASE DO NOT READ PAST HERE IF YOU HAVEN’T READ THE BOOK YET!!!*********
Starting with the negatives:
1. I did not like how Violet was INSISTENT that Xaden didn’t like her like girl I GET IT! You’re not sure if he truly loves you I felt like I was beat over the head with it. I get it adds to the plot but literally it felt like repetitive.
2. This is petty: I didn’t like how Violet talked to people including Tarin.
3. I’ll hold off on characters development until I finish the series.
4. Liam 🥲
Positives:
1. I loved how there were hints about Dain casually reading her memories! I had a feeling and I’m enjoyed how Yarros revealed it.
2. The ENDING! I thought I knew the ending because of a spoiler but nooooooooo Brennan!!!!!!
3. I absolutely loved the switch to Xaden’s thoughts . Hearing it with the audio book was so much fun!
4. I love the how “villains” were not who or what I thought they would be.
