Themes of manipulation, propaganda, and oppression are so much more impactful when they are placed in the context of individuals.
While I understand 1984’s purpose and think it’s a necessary piece to explore the importance of language and information in subduing a population, I think Animal Farm is the best place to start because it’s relatively easy to comprehend but just as effective in relaying these themes.
