You Had Me At Hello by Mhairi McFarlane
2.0
I am weirdly obsessed with Mhairi McFarlane's books but I really hate many parts of them. (Thank you & sorry to my friend Paula who listens to my rants <3) It was the fifth book from this author that I've read and I am noticing a theme. (Besides the obvious romance, mid-thirty, breakup-stuff)
DISLIKE
So for example she repeatedly makes fun of vegans or people who don't eat meat?
And WHAT THE HELL is going on with the heterosexual-cis-monogamy here. (I am not critiquing that the love story is cis-het-monog) But WHY was there this Yeah, the author also really thinks that monogamy is the only way to go, but that's way more present in some of the other books.
I am sure I am forgetting something but these things really annoyed me and just made the book less enjoyable.
LIKE
The book was mostly funny and felt very realistic. (besides the end obviously) I like the authors writing style and liked the plot. I think the characters were well established and made sense.
Overall; It's an easy read and I will probably continue reading the authors other books but the unnecessary discrimination and pride in eating meat just bothers me to a massive degree.
