I have heard readers like this book less than its predecessor, Six of Crows, but I actually think I enjoyed it more! The found-family dynamic is out in full force in this sequel with rewarding character development and a plot full of twists and turns. The addition of some parental figures in the mix (Nina’s mentors and Jesper’s father) really highlights that these characters are just kids who are victims of circumstance fighting for their lives, not criminals. The dark overtones, well-written characters, and beautiful imagery made me forget this is intended as YA, but the wacky-bordering-on-unbelievable plot twists were a reminder. Regardless, this was such a fun read and these characters will all keep a place in my heart.
