ARC provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.
Sparrow by Sara Mack is a coming of age story of first love, lost love, picking up the pieces, and finding that first love again.
In the beginning we meet Kyle, a young man of 16 who is spending summer at his Grandma’s cottage in northern Michigan, along with his younger brother Kevin. After years of spending summer on the lake, they are starting to grow bored with their surroundings, this particular summer brings 3 young ladies to the lake. Kyle is mesmerized by one, but has not got up the nerve to go speak with her. On a quad ride he stumbles upon his mystery girl, she is searching for her lost dog, Sam. It’s then that Kyle learns she is leaving that day. Their exchange is somewhat snarky, but mystery girl introduces herself as Addison Parks. She lets Kyle know that she is aware that Kyle has been watching her and would like to know why he hasn't made a move. They part ways, but Addison tells Kyle “Don’t be a stranger next summer”
The story continues the following summer where Kyle and Addison grow much closer. They share all their wishes, and dreams for the future. They spend as much time together as possible, and they discuss continuing their relationship after summer ends. They learn that they live with an hour of one another, and makes plans to meet up Labor Day weekend. Labor Day weekend comes and from the texts and phone calls both are very excited about seeing one another. The day comes and Kyle could'nt be happier. He shows up at Addison’s house and she is nowhere to be found, nor is her family. The only person home is Sam their dog. Kyle waits around and no one every shows up. Devastated he heads back home. He keeps trying to reach Addison, but is unsuccessful. He returns to her house days later only to find that Sam is now gone.
Fast forward a bit into the future and we now meet Kyle as an adult. He has commitment issues, and can’t really settle down with anyone.
This story is told from the male perspective. It’s a sweet, honest, and a bit heartbreaking love story. It’s about meeting your first love, falling madly in love, having your heart broken and questioning if it was ever real, to finding that love again.
There are so many ups and downs with this story, it all feels very realistic and has a happy ever after ending. Kyle is just a normal down to earth young man, and Addison is a feisty, tell you like it is young lady.

I can only hope that Sara writes more about these wonderful characters in the future.
