This was my first Sam Mariano book, and yeah… definitely not my last.
The level of uncomfortable I felt reading this? Exactly what I want to chase in her books from now on. It had me on edge the whole time, waiting for Carter to cross that final line into full-blown irredeemable territory. And it was fantastic.
Carter—manipulative, brilliant, emotionally wrecked, god complex, and zero moral compass. A complete menace.
Zoey—quick-witted, tough, sees right through people, just cynical enough to be wary but still stubbornly believes in the good.
They are so wrong for each other in a way that makes them absolutely perfect. I loved them. I hated them. But never in a way that made me want to stop reading. If you like your antiheroes alpha and trulymorally corrupt, Sam Mariano delivers.
