Overall I’d say the book was just fine. Greek myth retellings can be tricky because the original myths tend to be flat, plot driven stories with one dimensional characters where random things just happen to them. Unfortunately this book felt a lot like that, flat and one dimensional. More a literal retelling rather than taking inspiration to craft a narrative with character growth and dimension, which I would have found more compelling.
Additionally I didn’t feel much chemistry between Atalanta and her romantic partners and many important scenes felt totally rushed through, and although the story is interesting and I enjoyed the feminist lens of Atalanta’s story as a whole it left me feeling underwhelmed. The ending is a bit bizarre as rushed as well.
