The Nowhere Child
by Christian White
Cannot believe this is Christian Whites debut novel! This book was addicting and had me eagerly turning pages to find out what was going to happen next. What if one day at work you were sitting at a table enjoying a break , before your next photography class was to begin. A complete stranger comes up to you and informs you that they believe your Sammy Went, a missing toddler who went missing in a small town in Kentucky 28 years previously. This is what happened to Kim Leamey. At first Kim brushes it off but when she begins to dig into her past she finds her stepfather Dean definitely knows something he’s not telling her. Was her whole past a lie and the people she thought were her parents her kidnappers? So Kim finds herself in Manson Kentucky searching for clues as to who she really is and what happened to Sammy all those years before. She meets her brothers and sisters while there and seems like their childhood was full of disappointment and hurt and their mother was a firm believer of the local church called the church of the light. The church of the light has a firm hold on the small town and everyone’s life. As the story begins to unfold it seems everyone is hiding something and in a small minded town like Manson some of the secrets can be very deadly and may be better off being left in the past. As Sammy/ Kim digs into the towns history it begins to put her life in danger will she be able to find the answers to her past and discover who she really is and what happened that hot summer afternoon when she was taken? This narrative alternates between the present and past seamlessly and your quickly drawn into Sammy/ Kim’s life and everyone else that was in her life. I love how the book took you into everyone’s life and their secrets it just added to the story. I fell for each character and found myself completely drawn into their life story as well. This book was amazing and I will highly recommend this book to anyone that is into psychological thrillers and mysteries!
