"In the dying embers of the night, there is a changing of the guard. Some living creatures fade into silence; other spark to life. While certain souls finally coil up and rest inside their skulls, cut off from the visible words of prey, and other guardians of the night--the colour of suns in the darkness. These beings have no name in the forest."

Thoughts~
I haven't read a lot of eco-fiction but after reading Christiane Vadnais's Fauna I want to read more!
This eerie, surreal, atmospheric read takes place in the near future where climate change has dismantled the world as we know it. The story mostly occurs in Shivering Heights where weather is extreme.....terrential rains, fog, toxic skies, and the inhabitants, humans included are changing, and evolving in remarkable ways. Amongst this frightening scene Laura, a biologist struggles to comprehend what is going on around her and within her own self.
This was more like a novella. These interconnected stories are mezmorizing and prophetic. Reads like a strange nightmare.....think environmental horror. Vadnais's prose are vivid, pulling and precise. An unsettling read, I think this one will haunt me for a while. Thank you @coachhousebooks for sending this to me opinions are my own.
