I can't believe this is the first time I've read Pat Conroy. What a writer. His insight into human nature and his talent with words it's astonishing. While I think, likes the great Martin Scorsese, his work could be trimmed and tightened with a strong editor, I don't care. I was drawn into the story of Will and the Citadel...err...South Carolina Military Institute pulled me in from word one. Part coming of age story and part mystery, this is a book that I continue to think about.
