Leonard: My Fifty-Year Friendship with a Remarkable Man
by William Shatner
William Shatner shares his memories of Leonard Nimoy, Star Trek, and their 50 year friendship. I had no idea Shatner and Nimoy had such similar backgrounds.
This book really humanized Nimoy for me, instead of the unapproachable Spock. I could more easily see him as a person through Shatner's eyes. I loved Shatner's honest love for Nimoy. You could tell he cared very much for him. They had gone through a lot together: Star Trek, addiction, multiple marriages and divorces, aging, etc.
Star Trek is so iconic and Spock is such a legendary character. It was interesting to hear Shatner's recollections. Nimoy and Shatner were inseparably tied to their characters of Spock and Kirk, for better or for worse. This book also gave me greater insight into Shatner. I had always seen him as a bit of a fool, if I were to be honest, and his narration helped me see more into his method and approach to his craft.
