Under the Same Stars
by Libba Bray
Woah. This is probably one of the best books I've ever read and I will be thinking about it for a long time. Interweaving three periods of time: the nonconformists, the rebels, the outcasts - all provide examples of love as a form of resistance to oppression across the world in many different (but also not) circumstances.
Mark my words, this will win the Printz.
FANTASTIC audio - one that I recommend you listen to rather than read, if within your ability to do so.

Moderate: Homophobia, War
The homophobia comes from the time period and circumstances - this story focuses on queer joy and love enthusiastically - but includes the real challenges queer people have faced through history.
