This review is subject to change if the series lets me down. I am not a series type of person, I rarely read series because I do not like to invest that much time into a story. I want to keep moving. And I am almost ALWAYS disappointed by the end. And I will rate a series as a whole and not as a stand alone book. To me rating a series book by book is like rating a book chapter by chapter. If all three books were under two covers and it was one book, it should make sense start to finish.

However, this book for me was my second 5 star book of the year. I am not quick to rate a book five stars, out of the 18(or 19 I don’t know off the top of my head) books I have read this year this is only my second 5 star book.

After I finished this book and I came on here to read a couple of reviews that were left it was clear that many people did not agree with me. However I read one that I, from the bottom of my heart, could not even begin to agree with. This reviewer said this book if you liked other circus books (i.e water for elephants, and night circus) you’d like this book, but this person hated all carnival books.

For one, the night circus is another one of my 5 star books. But this is not a review for that book so I will not explain that the writing and story telling is incomparable to any other piece of work.

Secondly, Caraval is not about a circus. So in my opinion that reviewer did not know what the heck they were talking about and did not fully give this book a chance based on the fact of their preconceived feelings about “circus” books.

The criticism I have for this book is similar to other reviews I will say. The writing is not that of a literary genius. However, this is a YA series, and the description of things was a little too much at times for me.

However this book is so enthralling. There are plot twists after plot twists and it requires you to just takes things as truth. The love story is fun and I consistently found myself fighting for them and loved the enemies to lovers vibe that it had.
