This is a classic that has been missing from my repertoire for a while. I'm so glad that I finally picked it up. All set in one day - culminating in a party - the genius of this books is in giving the impression of mundanity, even frivolity when in fact it reveals so much of the universal and individual humanity of the characters we meet. Yes for the most part they are a privileged set but they are also incredibly real. I think this is a book that benefits from a quick read because without chapters etc. The flow of the day is like cuts in a movie and reading it in a short space of timw does this style more justice.
