The Emperor's Soul by Brandon Sanderson

5.0

Well I seem to have gone mad. I had an assignment submission tonight and I spent the evening reading this wonderful novella by Sanderson.

Rating : 9/10

Where I Fount It : I watched Petrik's video on fantasy standalones and found it there. Why I picked it, because he said "You can understand what a good storyteller Sanderson is and it's so small!"
It has been some time since I last read Sanderson. Even though I read a fair bit of fantasy and one of the 1st fantasy I read was The Final Empire from the Mistborn, somehow I haven't gone back to the series though I'm always thinking of getting back. And his books are always in my tbr but somehow back in college I found his writing a bit intimidating even though extremely awesome. I was in awe with the magic system. Anyways I just wanted to have a taste of his awesome writing again.

What I Loved : What beautiful writing and the ideas and such a great work emotionally on such limited domain. 175 pages long and the story does not feel like it's missing bits. Fast and lucid writing. And the notion was a complex one--creating a persona that will be the not like the real one but will be real with time. The system known as soulstamp was also explained as the story goes. It was a bit vague at places as this book seems to be part of the Elantris world, so the foundation was already there which I haven't read. But I loved it even without the total breakdown. And the protagonists are awesome too!

What I Didn't Like : Wish it was longer and the process was farther explained.
