This Shattered World
by Meagan Spooner, Amie Kaufman
The love a few things about this book, one the characters and how they meet, so well done. Who wouldn't want to meet someone at gunpoint in a crowded military bar? and two the WORLD!
Nothing makes a sci fi more amazing for me then being able to see a whole universe, different cultures and worlds all e impacted by the same evil corporation and effecting them in different ways.
This book follows two new main characters on the world of Avon, a few years after the first book. Avon isn't a finished world, still being terraformed it's not stable and the military presence has caused rebel groups to form just wanting to be able to feed and teach their children the military has forced them into the swamps of there world.
Flyn a rebel with a gentle soul, only wants to protect his people.
Lee a captain known for her unrelenting and unfeelingness, doing what ever it takes to get the job done and keep her troops safe.
Both are caught up in something bigger then the two of them and must make the world know what is happening here so they don't just become another blip on the radar.
The terraforming should have happened years ago but Le Roux has it's hand in it and there is illness on Avon. A sickness that comes over the people making there pupil explode in there eyes and killing anger come on often resulting in the death of innocents and PSTD.
I adored Flynn, he was caring, hard, and new right for wrong ready to do the best not only for his own people but for the world. Lee Chase has had a hard life and the loss of her parents hardened her and made her into the soldier she is but again she see's whats going on is all part of something larger and isn't going to stand by and let a strange force ruin her friends and others lives.
I loved Flynn and Chases meeting, the emotion they shared was amazing and I really enjoyed the inner turmoil caused by being on opposing sides of a war.
The world building is fantastic as always and the cameos and cross over plot unfolded so well.
“There are no stars, because there are never any stars here, only a thick darkness that rushes down her throat and into her heart. She dreams of drowning.”
The one thing I will say about these books is there's just something holding me back from being absolutely IN love with it and I can't decide what it is... maybe it's having to get use to new characters? Maybe it's that I wasn't quite sure what would happen if the whispers weren't saved or killed... I'm not sure.
4/5 Stars
