Forget This Ever Happened by Cassandra Rose Clarke

2.0

„Forget This Ever Happened“ is a stand-alone paranormal/mystery novel by Cassandra Rose Clarke.

Claire is shipped off to Texas for the summer, in order to help her sick grandmother around the house. But Indianola isn’t a town like any other, strange things are happening here and both those occurences and the memories thereof seem to be confined to the city limits.
Julie works as an exterminator during the summer, only she has to deal with a different kind of vermin than one would expect.
Their lives are linked in ways the two girls did not expect with ties way back into the past…

It’s been quite a few years since I last read a book by Cassandra Rose Clarke, so I was quite eager to dive into „Forget This Ever Happened“.
Sadly, I have to admit that I did not enjoy it even half as much as would have liked. Somehow, this book felt very lengthy, even though it’s rather short. The town this story is set in could have been interesting if it had been explored more.
The biggest problem, for me, is the complete lack of authenticity and depth, regarding both the plot and the characters. Julie and Claire, the two main characters, are some of the blandest, most repetitive and most annoying characters whose perspectives I’ve ever read from. I did not care what happened to them and was not invested in their lives at all.
The overall storyline sounded very intriguing to me when I first read the blurb, but it really isn’t executed well. I was confused pretty much from start to finish and wanted to dnf this book plenty of times.

In conclusion, I was intrigued by the premise of this book, but due to its lackluster execution did not enjoy it in the end, unfortunately.
