I lost track of time so often when reading this book. An incredibly well written novel, a scathing review on the industrial revolution and the impact of colonisation greed on individuals and countries.

Each character felt thought out and not flawless. They grew as the story did, and it was noticible where the influences of their decisions were rooted.

I also just loved the magic system. It was clever in its simplicity, but in that, obvious in its limits and capability.

It's a book that challenged my own beliefs and really made me consider what complacency results in.
