Damn, this one was a slog. At first, I remembered why I loved Didion so much and how her writing made me want to write myself. Then, with the help of some additional knowledge about who she is and how she subtly imbues herself into her writing, it shifted my opinion a little bit. Didion is a bit of a god looming over the people she’s writing about, viewing all and judging all at the same time. That quiet, omnipresent judgement started to get old after a while. I’m glad I read it, but it was difficult to finish and definitely took me a while.
