I picked this book out in a bookstore based on the cover alone, nearly two years before reading it. I'm glad I waited, because in the span of two years, I've labelled myself several different ways and settled on lesbian.

Good lesbian fiction is SO HARD to find that sometimes I tend to give up and just read general queer fiction. This book is one of the first I've read that I not only related to, but also thoroughly enjoyed.

I'm long past the point of relating to teen fiction, these days trying to find the in between and nebulous "new adult" fiction. But as someone who came into their queer identity quite late in life, I found myself relating to the experience of self-discovery that I normally find a bit trite in YA novels (which is fair!! I'm not meant to relate to them! They aren't for me anymore!)

All this to say that I loved this story, as a glimpse into what life might have been like for queer (minority) girls in the 1950s, simultaneously highlighting the differences and similarities to the issues queer people face today.

If you're a young questioning queer person or late to bloom lesbian, this book may be for you ❤️

Also, happy pride month ❤️
