Winter Solstice by Rosamunde Pilcher

5.0

(4.5 stars rounded to 5) This was a very cozy read with lots of comforting descriptions of food, holidays, outdoor winter scenes and old stone homes. Several characters experience tragedies and personal setbacks before coming together for winter soltice in very cold Northern Scotland. I could see pretty clearly how the plot was going to develop but I enjoyed getting there. I especially loved the dog (Horace) who is a constant thread through the story. I also liked a love affair with older characters--although they thought of themselves as ancient in their sixties (ouch!).
