The Orphan of Cemetery Hill
by Hester Fox
This was a huge disappointment for me and it makes me sad to give it two stars. I previously read Hester fox's debut and loved it. It was one of my favorite books of 2018. I read her follow up book last year and it was good. This one though was just ehhhh and I could not finish the last 80 pages. Tabby is able to speak to the dead, which is something that she has learned to hide from others. As a young girl her parents were killed in a carriage accident. Her older sister and her were sent to live with her aunt and uncle who wanted to use her gift for profit. Her sister, Alice, run away from them in the hopes of a better life but they are soon separated. Years later Tabby lives with Eli, the kind hearted keeper of a cemetery still looking for her sister. She soon becomes embroiled with the Resurrection Men and helping a young man prove his innocence in the murder of his fiancé. This book lacked all of the charm of Hester Fox's two pervious books. I disliked the mystery element, it just dragged on and on plus it was not interesting. I also disliked Caleb immensely. When the alternating chapters were from his POV I lost all interest. Tabby and Eli were the only redeemable things about the book but they sadly could only make it a two star book.
