Solaris by Stanisław Lem

An interesting concept - a possibly sentient ocean encompassing an entire planet possibly trying to communicate with humans orbiting in a space station through physical incarnations of their innermost thoughts - the execution seems rather dated (it was written in 1960) and occasionally lapses into snore-inducing philosophical nit-picking of its fictitious scientific community and premise.
