The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon
3.0

I pride myself on being quite a quick reader. This book made me reconsider. I had to take breaks almost constantly at first because I could not focus on the story. And I'm really sad, because I hoped that this book would be one of my favorite read of the year. I still liked it, but I was torn between 3 or 4 stars.

It began to be interesting for me maybe 200 pages in, and I must admit, when I was hooked, I was invested in the story, even if I feel like not all storylines were as interesting as Ead's. I would have loved to see more interactions between her and Sabran, after she learned who she is, I find their conflicting relationship quite interesting.

I also felt like that while the characters always faced some danger, I was not really worried about them, as I knew that they could get away with minimum lasting consequences. The characters that ended up dying were almost unimportant, and if I remember correctly, only Sabran and Roos suffered lasting injuries, but they are pretty much brushed aside (especially Roos).

As you can see, I'm conflicted. Maybe I would need another read to sort out how I feel about this, but I will not read this again, it sounds silly, but as a spoonie my hands hurt while holding this book, in my opinion, it is not really confortable to read such a large book.
