The Autobiography of Malcolm X by Malcolm X

emotional informative reflective

5.0

what can i really say…
i wish i had read this book earlier. it’s changed my thought processes in numerous ways

the conviction! the humility. the genuineness.

Malcolm X was a powerful truth teller and his ideology continues to live on and will continue to do so for all of the years humans have left on this planet

i think i’m left with this feeling around our expectations of the people we look to for wisdom and inspiration, the weightiness of conviction, how it really took an incredible amount of bravery and genuineness and humility for Malcolm X to admit he altered his ideology, adapted his new knowledge and allowed himself to not stay stuck

instead of appreciating him, we judged him and he didn’t have the space to be human because the expectations placed upon him could only be achieved by non-human abilities and we took that to mean we shouldn’t value his words

but his words were so valuable. so honest. so determined. and there were so many who held onto his words and his ideas and messages and that allowed his work to be carried forward even after he left his physical embodiment and we should be honored we have access to this book
