Maisie Dobbs by Jacqueline Winspear

5.0

“‘A time when the light is most likely to deceive the eye, a time between sleeping and waking. A time when a man is likely to be at his weakest. Dawn is a time when soft veils are draped across reality, creating illusion and cheating truth. It is said, Maisie, it is darkest just before dawn.’”

beautifully written. an amazing mystery with lots of historical bits. the prose is just incredible. broke my heart at the end though.
