When I thought it would be one of my favorite books, I finished it.
The end was such a delusion.
At the beginning of the story I was so involved in my reading. Oliver Twist’s life was not just very touching and emotional, but it was so meaningful. It was not just about a poor kid who have been through so much stuff, but it was the demostration that been born poor it doesn’t make you worse than everybody else. I really liked the irony and sarcasm of the author, it reminds me of Giovanni Verga’s style. But at the end, Dickens has literally throw away all of his masterpiece for what? God’s benevolence. He failed his work when he decided to make Oliver’s origins wealthy. The characters were very plastic and rigid. There were good or bad personalities, no other options. It was so fake. Oliver was insanely good and mature. I would have prefered more human behaviors. At the end the real meaning of the story is that we born in a certain way and we will die being the same. That economics condition are irrelevant, that if you’re a good person God will bless you…So sorry I’ve learnt nothing. Despite all the negative things I’ve loved the narrative technique, and as I just said the first part was sooooo good and catching.
